Bimpe Nkontchou is the founder and managing principal of London-based wealth management firm W8 Advisory. She specialises in advising HNW entrepreneurs and family businesses on family and corporate governance, estate and tax planning, asset management, philanthropy, and compliance and regulatory issues. 

The firm also provides family office services to African HNWs who are based in or have connections and assets in the UK, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. 

Nkontchou is qualified to practise law in both the UK and Nigeria, and she tells Spear’s how much she enjoys helping her clients. ‘I enjoy problem solving, and the work I do is all about finding global solutions. This could be anything from assisting clients have a sound governance structure that ensures a smooth transition of the family business to the next generation, to helping to acquire or dispose of assets such as real estate in a seamless manner.’

Bimpe is a dually qualified lawyer, with over 35 years’ collective experience in England and Wales and in Nigeria. As ‘Trusted Advisor’ to HNW clients, affluent entrepreneurs, significant family businesses and next-gens, she provides advice for wealth structuring, tax and estate planning, family governance and family business succession planning; as well as accessing solutions for financial planning, asset management, business consultancy, corporate finance and philanthropy. Bimpe offers essential advice and stewardship to support the growth and continuity of the founding owner’s vision and legacy.

‘I intimately understand the cultural nuances that motivate African HNW families in managing, preserving and structuring their wealth, for today and for their next generation,’ Bimpe explains.

In 2021, Bimpe launched a fintech platform Wealth8 (authorised and regulated by the FCA) with the objective of democratising access to wealth management, saving and investing and financial education for the underserved audience of affluent black and minority communities, as well as women and next-gen inheritors of wealth in the UK.

Bimpe is the founder and convener of the first Lagos Private Wealth Conference held in Lagos, Nigeria, in June 2024. The conference is designed to connect HNW clients with local and international professional firms and advisers focused on enhancing wealth management services on the African continent. Bimpe is a keen enthusiast and collector of modern and contemporary African art, which is rapidly becoming an important asset class. She advises families and established artists on different models of philanthropy and methods of preserving the legacy of important artwork. She is also a trustee of the Yinka Shonibare Foundation and a member of the Centre Pompidou (Paris) Committee on African Art.
