Spear’s Review

Jo Thompson and her landscape and garden design team work on a wide range of projects, including country estates, large family gardens, heritage landscapes and rooftop terraces. 

Primarily based in East Sussex, Thompson predominantly works across south-east England; however, she has also collaborated with clients in Italy, France and the US. She has won four Gold and five Silver-gilt medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

A visiting tutor at the London College of Garden Design, Thompson is also an author; her latest book, The New Romantic Garden, was published in 2025. Via 30 gardens, the book guides readers on how to adapt traditional gardening methods to be more ecologically friendly. Her weekly newsletter, The Gardening Mind, which explores inspirational spaces and offers planting and garden design advice, has more than 36,000 subscribers.
