Anouska Hempel

Spear’s Review

Anouska Hempel’s elegant designs have graced homes, hotels, retail spaces and yachts across the globe, and she is celebrated for her command of the ‘grand manner’ – a design technique influenced by classical art and incorporating ‘calm intimacy and subtle layering’.

In one project of note – the Monsieur George hotel in Paris – Hempel brought the Bosphorus to Paris: inspired by her Arabic and Lebanese connections, the celebrated actress-turned-interior designer created ‘a Moroccan oasis’ via dark-green details and lush velvet furnishings that are characteristic of her tastes.

Design historian Marcus Binney has praised her eclectic designs, which combine both beauty and charm: ‘[She] could have been born in any era, anywhere in the world – and, however lowly or isolated, she would have beaten a path to opportunity, success and good living.’
