David Gilmour, a chartered accountant and director who has previously overseen family office investments at NM Rothschild, founded Imperium Trust in 2011 to serve a wide variety of international HNWs.

With over 15 years of private client experience, Gilmour’s specialisms include complex tax structuring and pension planning, as well as property and bank financing. 

Gilmour, who travels extensively for work and pleasure to destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, has organically acquired an international client base, while also drawing from his network of contacts in the legal, advisory and banking sectors. Outside of work, he enjoys reading history and studying financial markets, as well as enthusiastically supporting Scotland at football and rugby union.

David is the managing director of the Imperium Group. Headquartered in Guernsey, the group was formed by David 14 years ago with the establishment of Imperium Trust Company. The success of Imperium Trust Company over the last decade has seen client and employee numbers grow through organic and strategic growth. 

In recent years David has overseen the expansion of the Imperium Group to include fiduciary offices in the UK, Jersey and Switzerland. The group has also expanded into fund services, an offering that David has long been keen to explore; the funds team is based out of Guernsey but expanded to the UK in January 2025. The group today is 155 employees strong, with representation in the four key jurisdictions.
