South Africa-born, London-based designer Justin Van Breda has eclectic influences: ‘I have always loved the Art Deco period, and I’m mad about the Georgians,’ he says.

Certainly the interior and furniture designer always has the Palladian ideal in mind when he comes to refreshing a room. For Van Breda, the point of a project is to make the client happy: he brings this simple philosophy to bear in work in London, Cape Town, Venice and the Caribbean. There’s also humour in his work, as if the classical is glimpsed through a witty prism. 

Van Breda is also the founder of Cape Looms, a project that ‘builds community through craft’ and which produces hand-woven flat-weave rugs in Cape Town.
