Harvey Bell, associate director and head of bloodstock at Tattersalls, the queen of equine auction houses, started working with horses at a very young age. 

‘I grew up around Newmarket, which obviously is a very big equestrian centre. Early mornings, shovel in hand, mucking out the stalls in the stables.’ Now, he oversees sales of fine horses on behalf of breeders and individual owners all over the world. ‘Everyone from one man with a horse in a field at the back of his garden to a stud that boards 200 horses,’ he said.

Bell directs potential buyers towards bloodstock agents but works with a roster of vendors to select and arrange stock for Tattersalls’ international timetable of sales.
