Lubna Shuja

Spear’s Review

Lubna Shuja, immediate past president of The Law Society of England and Wales, was ‘the first Asian, first Muslim and seventh female’ person to hold the position, according to the organisation.

In addition to her work as a solicitor – Shuja qualified in 1992 and is a sole practitioner at Legal Swan Solicitors in Birmingham – she is a member of the Ministry of Justice online procedure rule sub-committee. The committee was set up in 2022 to establish rules for certain types of online court and tribunal proceedings.

At Legal Swan Solicitors, Shuja specialises in professional discipline and regulation. Prior to that, Shuja worked in a high street firm in West Yorkshire for 14 years undertaking litigation and personal injury work.

She has experience in dealing with family law, conveyancing, personal injury claims, wills and probate, and litigation. She is also a mediator (CEDR accredited) conducting civil and family mediations, and remains a Law Society council member.
