James Lawson is a partner at Hill Dickinson and a member of the firm’s esteemed yacht team. 

The Monaco-based marine lawyer advises his UHNW client base on issues sprouting from superyacht transactions, financing, and design and ownership contracts.

‘I was always interested in sailing,’ says Lawson. ‘I’d had a background in clinical negligence and corporate law, and when this opportunity arose it was the perfect mix of insurance and general commercial work – with superyachts as the subject matter.’

Now with almost 20 years at the firm, Lawson says he enjoys seeing clients return to him for business. Rather than identifying a particular career highlight, Lawson notes his ability to ‘handle pretty much anything that has come to me over the years’ and ‘that the client is happy, no matter what has been thrown at us’.
