A partner at international firm Hogan Lovells, Robert Fugard has been in the aviation industry for more than 30 years, including a 10-year stint with Linklaters as head of the asset finance practice. He now focuses on complex cross-border financing, advising airlines, banks, leasing companies and UHNW individuals on acquisitions, disposals and other financing matters.

Fugard, whose work covers both commercial and corporate aircraft, enjoys the complexity of financing, saying: ‘Deals tend to be quite three-dimensional; they use a lot of law, and they involve a lot of foreign tax. So they’re stimulating.’ He also stressed the importance of close lawyer-client connections, adding, ‘I build close relationships.’
