‘We are physically remote from the superyacht world, but the world of communication makes us feel part of the industry,’ says Steven Quayle, a director at Isle of Man firm Cains.

Quayle leads the shipping and aviation team, and the banking and finance team at the firm, specialising in business and commercial aviation matters, as well as ship and superyacht finance. He is primarily involved in transactions work, acting for individuals and their family offices as well as corporations to finance and restructure their marine or aviation assets. ‘Our focus is on service, speed and discretion,’ Quayle says.

He notes the superyacht business is unusual because of the passion of the individuals involved. ‘Sometimes this can increase tension,’ he says, but it also brings a human element to proceedings. ‘It is a nice change from legal practice generally when the owner takes time to thank the professionals for having closed a challenging transaction.’
