Anne-Françoise Gavanon is the director of Frederick Mulder, one of London’s most prominent print dealers and the world’s top Picasso print specialist.

‘The print medium is a great point of entry, especially in relation to Picasso,’ said Gavanon. ‘One of the major Picasso prints is easily between £2 million and £2.5 million. If you want a beautiful painting from Picasso, you have to put down a lot more.’ 

But print requires connoisseurship; making the right purchase is ‘deceptively difficult’, Gavanon explained. ‘Print might mean reproduction, but in original printmaking the artist works directly on the plates, using far more creativity and originality.’
