Stephan Ludwig, CEO of Gurr Johns Capital, the art financing arm of Gurr Johns, has had a long career in debt structuring and art.

The former Credit Suisse managing director, who is also the founder of Forum Auctions and Forum Fine Wine, digital platforms for the sale of art, collectibles and wine, now combines his twin skill sets at Gurr Johns. ‘The core discipline of responsible asset-backed lending is not fundamentally different from more traditional collateralised lending, and I feel like I am increasingly revisiting experiences from my previous career,’ he tells Spear’s.

In addition to financing, Gurr Johns provides appraisals and valuations of individual art pieces, as well as full collections and other valuables. They assess more than $10 billion of art every year.
