Samuel Stirrat
Spear’s Review
Samuel Stirrat got into jewellery because he collected stones as a child. ‘Things sort of escalated a bit,’ he chuckles.
In 2017 Stirrat founded Blackacre, which ‘specialises in the creation of bespoke, limited-edition and made-to-order jewellery’, he tells Spear’s. The firm is one of the very few luxury jewellers to be B-Corp certified, and transparency – not just in the clarity of the gemstones set into the pieces – remains at the core of everything they do.
‘The way we make our jewellery is by stone-led design,’ says Stirrat. ‘What we do is we travel to different countries across the globe and document our journey to those countries, sourcing exceptional stones.
‘We’re always trying to get under the skin of wherever the stones are coming from, and at least have a visibility of how things work in that location. We may then purchase pieces from different points in the supply chain, whether that’s coming out of the mine, whether it’s from a local cutter, whether it’s from a local rough dealer. But, fundamentally, we like to see every single component.’
