The venerable David Hodson KC founded the International Family Law Group in 2007, when ‘nobody in their right mind would set up a law firm’.

Having departed the firm in 2025, he now operates as an independent consultant, a consulting private FDR judge, a part-time Family Court judge and a leading voice in the effort to further incorporate technology into law processes. 

Hodson has been celebrated for his foresight throughout his career: The family law firm’s foray into remote working proved to be ahead of its time, and it was among the first in the UK to deploy AI technology to enhance the way clients interact with lawyers. ‘We take pride in being ahead of the game,’ Hodson says.

In 2014, Hodson was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours and received an OBE, and in 2022 he was appointed an honorary King’s Counsel. He serves as an honorary professor at the University of Leicester and as a visiting professor at the University of Law.
