The application itself can often be counterintuitive, she tells Spear’s. ‘Practitioners who don’t do these cases regularly assume a good case might involve a parent who isn’t very involved, but it’s actually the polar opposite, because what you’re trying to do is persuade the court that you can be trusted to support the child’s relationship with the parent who is left behind.’
