Jay Patel
Spear’s Review
Jay Patel joined Bivonas Law in 2024 to lead the firm’s family law team.
‘I aim to use my breadth of expertise and knowledge to develop a reputable and proactive practice, keeping our clients’ best interests at its core,’ says Patel, who has more than two decades of domestic and international casework experience and acts for UHNW and HNW individuals on divorce, civil partnerships, financial remedy claims, children issues, private financial dispute resolution and prenuptial agreements. The majority of his clients have assets in multiple jurisdictions and require a solicitor well equipped to hand cross-border disputes. ‘My cases involve high-value assets and are complex,’ he tells Spear’s.
Working for clients from India and the Middle East, and with a key understanding of the various cultural and religious issues that such clients often have to tackle, he is their ‘go-to’ divorce lawyer and offers mediation services in English, Urdu and Gujarati.

Adviser Profile
Jay is known for his expertise in cross-border cases. He acted in the landmark case of J v H [2022] EWFC 133, which dealt with worldwide Freezing Orders in divorce. He also acted for a UHNW husband who owned a global oil brokerage and had a net worth of £120 million. Jay negotiated a £25 million settlement for the wife by demonstrating a shrewd understanding of his client’s business and distinguishing between marital and non-marital assets.
In addition to his astute commercial focus and stellar track record in financial remedy claims, Jay maintains a proactive and empathetic approach. Jay is also instructed in Children Act cases involving relocation, parental alienation and coercive and controlling behaviour.
