Pamela M. Sloan

Spear’s Review

New York-based Pamela M. Sloan of US firm Aronson Mayefsky & Sloan is renowned for being ‘a straight-talking, formidable negotiator’. The family law attorney is known to achieve favourable settlements for her clients, who often come to her with a range of complex issues.

However, she is also well known for recognising when to start the court battle when a settlement is out of the question. Sloan has achieved the ‘AV’ rating, the highest of standards for competence and ethics granted by industry experts Martindale-Hubbell.

Specialising in marital and non-marital relationships; pre- and postnuptial agreements; child custody and support; and equitable distribution and spousal maintenance in divorce, her clients include leaders from finance, real estate, fashion, law, technology, media, science, academia and sport.

Adviser Profile

Although Pam has practiced family law in Manhattan for more than four decades, she eschews the notion that she ‘has seen it all’, and is committed to treating every client, every family and every matter as unique.

Pam is widely recognised as being both a straight-talking, formidable negotiator and a skilled, tenacious litigator. She is known by her clients and her peers as being a careful thinker, a clever strategist and a creative problem solver who brings not only her intellect and skill, but also her empathy and humanity, to both the negotiating table and the courtroom, whether the matter is a highly charged custody matter or a fiercely contested complex financial matter.

Pam believes bombastic and ill-mannered lawyering does not equate to tough lawyering; her experience shows those behaviours most often result in unnecessary emotional and financial costs to the client. Pam believes the best results for her client come from knowing the facts and the law, listening to and understanding the opposing side’s position, looking for reasonable compromises and, when necessary, standing her and her client’s ground, in both negotiation and litigation.

Pam served three terms on the Judiciary Committee of the Bar Association of the City of New York, which screens judicial candidates for Federal and State courts.

Unrelated to her professional practice, Pam is a committed volunteer who, over the course of many decades, has served on the boards of several local and city-wide community service organisations and schools. At present, she sits on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corp. (WHEDCo) in the Bronx and on the Board of The Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School Foundation.

Pam is a lifelong New Yorker. She was born and raised in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. She and her husband live in Westchester County.
