‘To represent clients – from helping people get married to helping them separate their lives and family – you need to have the ability to connect with them’ says Blank Rome partner Lois J. Liberman, who is adept and sensitive in helping couples with the practical and emotional fallout from divorce. 

Working within the firm’s matrimonial and family law practice group, she handles cases involving pre- and postnuptial agreements, custody matters and paternity disputes. Liberman also conducts a webinar, Look Ahead with Lois Liberman, which addresses a variety of issues, including co-parenting, narcissism and coercive control.

Liberman previously told Spear’s that despite 50 per cent of relationships in the US ending in some sort of divorce or break-up, ‘people still have not been turned off by the process ... We’re still having a lot of prenuptial agreements.’

Given the US’s backed-up court system, mediation and arbitration have become increasingly useful tools, Liberman explains. ‘We are definitely using the alternative dispute resolution model. The problem is that you can only get people to agree when you’ve got someone reasonable on the other side and, unfortunately, in my world that is not always the case.’
