Spear’s Review

‘There is a drive from HNW individuals towards boutique firms like mine,’ says Georgina Hamblin, founder of Hamblin Family Law. ‘We will know the cases inside out, and […] offer personal support that feels more individual.’

Hamblin brings over a decade of expertise from her leadership role at Vardags, where she headed the London family team. Known for her work in high-value, multi-jurisdictional divorce cases, she has represented clients in disputes involving assets in the hundreds of millions.

One of her standout cases was Chai v Peng [2015], where she successfully represented former Miss Malaysia, Pauline Chai, in a jurisdictional battle against her husband, a prominent tycoon with ties to Laura Ashley and Corus Hotels. The case, which spanned two hemispheres, was a landmark in family law.

A unique element of her practice is a financial model that is intended to eliminate some of the uncertainty from the already daunting process of going through a divorce: fixed fees. Under the traditional hourly model, lawyers are incentivised to keep the clocks running, but Hamblin sees the fixed-fee structure as a firm-wide commitment to clients. ‘Some [clients] can be fearful that fixed fees means we are going to be less emotionally available […] but I am fully committed to being as available as needed.’

Hamblin Family Law won the award for the Private Client Innovation of the Year at the 2025 Spear’s Awards.
