Spear’s Review

Dr Alia Ahmed is a dermatologist who sees patients at the Bridge Clinic and Circle Reading Hospital in Berkshire, and at the London Skin and Hair Clinic in Holborn. She also works in the NHS at King Edward VII Hospital and the Royal London Hospital.  

Ahmed specialises in psychodermatology, which considers the psychological effects of skin problems as well as the way stress affects our skin, offering consultations for adults, teenagers and children. She has written widely on the subject in academic journals, is a visiting lecturer in psychodermatology at the University of Hertfordshire and is chair of Psychodermatology UK. She has particular expertise in treating hair loss and scalp conditions that result from stress. 

As part of her practice, Ahmed employs treatments such as topical creams, injectable medicines, phototherapy and minor surgery, while also taking into account the potential benefits of lifestyle and diet changes, cognitive-behavioural therapy and relaxation techniques.
