Though humour might not be a quality typically associated with tax lawyers, Clare Archer, head of Penningtons Manches Cooper’s private client and tax team, insists the occasional laugh can be good for business. But while her ability to remain good-humoured has helped her build rapport with colleagues and clients alike, Archer knows when it’s time to cut to the chase. ‘My clients know that I am totally honest and that my advice is direct and to the point,’ she says.

Since joining the firm, Archer has taken on a heavy caseload involving capital tax planning, the administration of large estates, will and trust drafting, and a wide range of asset protection and equity work, including for business owners and elderly clients.
