Murray Beith Murray partner Peter Shand specialises in asset protection and estate planning, advising HNWs and their families on a wide range of succession, inheritance and tax matters.

Qualified in Scotland as well as England and Wales, Shand is able to serve clients ‘with interests both north and south of the border’. His practice also caters to a number of HNWs with international portfolios.

Shand additionally has a contentious side to his practice and holds a STEP Advanced Certificate in trust disputes, which he says enables him to help clients ‘anticipate, and avoid, the common pitfalls’ that often lead to disputes. He joined the Edinburgh-based firm in 2004 having gained a background in corporate law, which means he has a nuanced perspective of the issues faced by HNWs in the corporate world as well as those facing family businesses.
