Helen McGhee

Spear’s Review

Helen McGhee, a partner at Joseph Hage Aaronson & Bremen, is a solicitor and chartered tax adviser specialising in UK and cross-border tax disputes within the firm’s contentious tax practice.

She is highly experienced in working on residence and domicile cases, as well as advising in relation to tax-driven trust disputes, family investment companies and cryptocurrency tax disclosures.

Changes to inheritance tax have caused concern among HNWs, McGhee notes. ‘Most of my clients have a lot of wealth, and so they’re much more cautious in whatever filing or position they take, and more cautious in relation to seeking HMRC clearances.’

She joined the firm in 2018 as a senior associate and was promoted to partnership in 2022. Prior to that she was a senior associate at New Quadrant Partners and an associate at litigation firm Squire Sanders (now Squire Patton Boggs).

Helen is a Solicitor and Chartered Tax Adviser who specialises in UK and international tax disputes. She is also a member of the Society of Tax and Estate Practitioners and is a CEDR accredited mediator. Helen advises both individuals and corporates either engaged directly or as a consultant to an extensive network of professional firms and financial institutions who repeatedly call upon her expertise in a wide variety of matters. She works seamlessly with HMRC to resolve disputes in a creative, professional and timely manner. Helen is praised by clients for being a safe pair of hands in a stressful situation, leaving no stone unturned and is incredibly adept at translating complex legal matters into a client friendly manner. Helen is ranked Band2 in the Chambers HNW guide fo
