‘I’m always astounded by the amount of clients that I’ve seen who don’t necessarily have a will in place, even though they’re worth millions,’ the personable Catrin Wigley tells Spear’s. ‘Clients are always aghast when I [tell them] what would happen to their estate in the event that they pass away without a will. With the intestacy rules, the spouse only initially has the first £270,000 and then half of whatever’s left, and then the other half of that goes to the children.’

Wigley joined Cardiff-based Hugh James as partner in 2022 after spending six years as an associate and head of private client at Wendy Hopkins Family Law Practice.

She has a loyal client base consisting of HNWs who mainly come to her through personal referrals and via recommendations from those within the financial services community. Wigley speaks fluent Welsh and is happy to obtain instructions and advise using the language, and regularly travels from South Wales to London to meet her clients.
