Educational consultant Matthew Smith, a highly experienced tutor in English language and literature, is the founder of Helicon View Learning (formerly called Griffin + Bell). 

The firm has succeeded in shepherding students through exams for many of the top schools in London and the UK, including Westminster, St Paul’s Girls and Boys and King’s College. Often working with families based outside of the UK, Smith tells Spear’s his job also entails ‘giving them the context around British education to help align their cultural values with those of prestigious schools in the UK’.

Smith read English literature at Christ Church college, University of Oxford, and is a published and prize-winning poet and novelist. His background allows him to approach his work ‘from the perspective of someone who understands academic thinking but also creative thinking’, he says, explaining that he aims to inspire students to think ‘both rigorously and imaginatively’.
