Ravi Menon retired as managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) as of January 2024, having been in the role since 2011.

MAS acts as the country’s central bank, financial regulator and agenda setter. Having long been praised for its role in maintaining Singapore’s financial stability while promoting innovative economic structures and policies, the authority has transformed the country – in the span of mere decades – into one of Asia’s economic powerhouses.

Menon, the longest-serving head of MAS, spearheaded the financial regulations and economic policies implemented in the country. His approach reflected an ideology that is sweeping through the region: to integrate Singapore as a key global player rivalling the economic powerhouses in the West.

It’s something his successor, Chia Der Jiun, will no doubt seek to continue.
