Robert Reed

Spear’s Review

Judge Lord Robert Reed took up his role as president of the UK Supreme Court at the start of 2020 after serving as deputy president for two years.

Appointed as a justice in 2012, the Scot has ruled in some of the most significant legal cases that have defined political affairs across the UK. This includes his highly controversial ruling to uphold the home secretary’s decision to revoke British citizenship in cases where national security cannot be assured.

Lord Reed sits on the judicial committee of the senior counsel and is a member of the panel of ad hoc judges of the European Court of Human Rights. He is also the high steward of Oxford University.
