Spear’s Review

Chris Hayward, policy chairman of the City of London Corporation, is in charge of political governance for the City of London.

In his role, Hayward is tasked with attracting international investment, ensuring London retains its place as a financial capital of the world, building relationships with political leaders in Westminster and abroad, and running the Square Mile as a local authority, ensuring its 8,600 full-time residents and more than 600,000 commuting workers can function effectively.

Re-elected to his post in 2024, Hayward reports that the City saw a record 331 office leasing deals that year, with new occupiers in the Square Mile set to include HSBC, Clifford Chance and Moody’s, which have all confirmed plans to move from Canary Wharf over the coming years.

Hayward previously served as deputy leader of Hertfordshire and Dorset County Councils, and had a successful career in the City, founding, leading and expanding businesses in the UK and internationally.
