Spear’s Review

Chris Hayward, policy chairman of the City of London Corporation, is in charge of political governance for the City of London.

In his role, Hayward is tasked with attracting international investment, ensuring London retains its place as a financial capital of the world, building relationships with political leaders in Westminster and abroad, and running the Square Mile as a local authority, ensuring its 8,500-plus full-time residents and more than half a million commuting workers can function effectively.

Re-elected to his post in May 2024, Hayward has said that ensuring the competitiveness of the City’s financial and professional services sector is key to kickstarting the UK economy, and that reforms could unlock up to £225 billion in investment.

Before taking up his current post, he was deputy leader of Hertfordshire and Dorset County Councils, and had a successful career in the City, founding, leading and expanding businesses in the UK and internationally.
