Spear’s Review
Richemont, the owner of luxury maisons including Cartier, Montblanc and A. Lange & Söhne, made headlines in 2024 when it appointed Nicolas Bos group CEO, reinstating a position that had been vacant for eight years. In the role, Bos oversees all 28 brands in the Richemont portfolio, across all regions, as well as functions including finance and human resources.
Johann Rupert, chairman of Richemont, said at the time of Bos’s appointment that he was ‘not stepping back’ but wanted someone to ‘assume some of the direct line reporting that he used to have’.
Bos joined Richemont in 1992 and had spent more than 20 years at Van Cleef & Arpels, holding positions including international marketing director, and vice president and creative director. Bos was appointed global president and CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels in 2013.
The appointment came at a difficult time for global luxury, which has experienced a slowdown and difficult market conditions in key regions such as China, as well as in the US, where recently introduced tariffs have affected luxury imports. And yet Richemont saw group sales increase by 4 per cent for the year ended 31 March 2025, with its jewellery maisons seeing the best performance.
