Spear’s Review
King’s College School Wimbledon is an independent day school founded in the Strand by royal charter in 1829. It caters to boys aged 7–18 and girls aged 16–18. Its campus looks out across Wimbledon Common.
The school offers a broad curriculum, and pupils are encouraged to ask questions, develop their own opinions and expand their interests beyond the syllabus through participation in a wide range of clubs and societies.
King’s is well known for its outstanding academic success. For the last seven years, around 25 per cent of upper sixth pupils have gone on to study at Oxford or Cambridge, and an increasing number have left to attend top universities in North America.
Head teacher
Dr Anne Cotton is the first permanent female head of King’s College School. The former head of Portsmouth Grammar School took on the role in September 2022. Dr Cotton earned a double first in classics at Christ Church, Oxford, and completed her Master’s of Studies in classical languages and literature and her Doctor of Philosophy at the college. She also holds an MA in education.
