Spear’s Review

Established in 1900, The English School in Cyprus is a day school popular among Cypriot families. Its ethos of inspiring excellence and motivating the youth of Cyprus has contributed to its reputation as the country’s leading educational institution.

‘We provide an inspiring, challenging and innovative curriculum that is typified by criticism, creativity, challenge, compassion and contemplation,’ the school says of the approach it takes towards its pupils. Holistic education is at the heart of the institution, with both academic and life skills being a strong focus in lessons.

The school offers a British curriculum with students sitting for IGCSE and A-Level examinations. Many students continue their education at leading universities in the UK and North America. This includes Russell Group and Ivy League colleges.

Academics

75 per cent of GCSE results are grades 7–9.

66 per cent of results at A-Level are A* or A.

University and college destinations

Graduates of The English School attend prestigious universities globally, including University College London, Imperial College London, University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics.

Students also pursue higher education in countries such as Australia, Canada, France, and the USA, with notable institutions like McGill University, University of Melbourne and Sciences Po.

Stuart Walker joined The English School as headmaster in mid-2023. He previously served as executive principal at RDFZ King’s College School in Hangzhou, China; head of school at GEMS World Academy in Dubai; and principal at Garden International School in Malaysia.
