Spear’s Review
Only 16km from the centre of Athens, The Campion School's state-of-the art facilities include a football pitch, a running track, tennis and basketball courts, IT labs and libraries for both junior and senior school pupils.
The school was founded in 1970 by Elizabeth and Thomas Shortell, American philhellenes, who sought to create a school based in Athens which would enable youth to have access to quality education that would adequately prepare them for top-class universities in Europe and North America.
Now, the school offers a blended curriculum, following both British and international standards, as well as Greek.
Academics
65 per cent of GCSE results are grades 7–9.
Average IB score is 36.0.
University and college destinations
The majority of students at Campion continue their education in the UK, including at Oxford, while other students go on to study at leading universities in America, including MIT and Ivy League school Brown University.
Head teacher
Michael Henderson, headmaster at Campion since 2021, previously served as head of seniors and head of PE at the school.
Admissions
Campion requires applicants to submit an application form along with a copy of recent school reports. For entry into the early years and junior schools, students are invited to an interview with the head of school. For those applying to the senior school, admission includes sitting an English exam (if their native language is not English), and also a mathematics, vocabulary and non-verbal abilities exam. Students can be admitted at any point in the school year – depending upon availability of spaces – though priority is given to international families.
