Spear’s Review

Established in 1954, the British School of Paris is the only fully accredited British Overseas School in France.

Since it was founded, the school has maintained its ties with the UK, remaining under the patronage of His Majesty’s ambassador to France. In the past, it has seen visitors such as the late Princess of Wales, the Duchess of Wessex and the Duchess of Gloucester.

Its motto, validus corpore animoque, meaning ‘strength in body and mind’, is an ethos that the school strives to carry through into the daily lives of its students through rigorous academics and a host of extracurricular activities. Students who have graduated continue to excel, gaining places at elite universities in more than 25 countries around the world.

Academics

58 per cent of GCSE results are grades 7–9.

37 per cent of results at A-Level are A* or A.

University and college destinations

In 2024, 97 per cent of students won a place at their first-choice university, and students matriculated at a variety of universities in the UK, US and further afield.

Head teacher

Nicholas Hammond grew up in Norwich, England, and studied archaeology at the University of Cambridge before achieving a postgraduate certificate in education at the University of Oxford. Prior to his headship of the British School of Paris, he was headmaster of Wisbech Grammar School in Cambridgeshire for six years.
