Spear’s Review

Five core qualities differentiate the pedagogical approach of Choate Rosemary Hall, according to its prospectus. Students are part of an ‘authentic’ academic community which is ‘just the right size’, offering a space for ‘academic exploration’ that is also intimate.

According to the Connecticut-based school: ‘Our school is large enough to support a wide range of academic opportunities and extracurricular offerings, but small enough to support the connections and relationships that help our students thrive.’

School doesn’t end at 3pm; rather, the nurturing curriculum spills over from academics in the classroom to clubs, sports and activities that take place across the boarding school’s campus.

Head teacher

Dr Alex Curtis, head of school, joined Choate Rosemary Hall in 2011. He earned his doctorate from Princeton University’s department of art and archaeology; a lifelong teacher and learner, he still teaches architectural history every spring term.
