Spear’s Review

Millfield School aims to break the traditional educational mould by shaping the school around the child, fostering curiosity and individual development. Located in Somerset, the school boasts world-class facilities, including a 50-metre swimming pool, 18-hole golf course, equestrian centre and indoor cricket and golf centres. It’s no surprise that Millfield students have gone on to compete in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

Beyond athletics, Millfield encourages academic and artistic excellence, offering a wide range of subjects and creative outlets. The school emphasises a holistic approach, enabling students to explore their passions, whether in sports, science, the arts, or humanities.

47 per cent of GCSE results are grades 7–9.

31 per cent of A-Level results are A* or A.

University and college destinations

In 2024, 84 per cent of Millfield's cohort secured places in higher and further education worldwide. Popular UK choices included Bath, Bristol, and Exeter, while US destinations included the University of Chicago, Stanford, Columbia and Princeton, with many students earning academic and sports scholarships.

Head teacher

Gavin Horgan has been the headmaster of Millfield School since 2019. He holds a degree in Classical Greek Language and Literature from Oxford University.

Admissions

Prospective families are encouraged to visit the school, where they can learn more about its ethos and facilities.

The application includes submitting academic records, references, and completing entrance tests in subjects like English and Mathematics.

Students are also invited for an interview, allowing the school to assess character and motivations. For those with exceptional talent in sports or the arts, additional consideration is given.
