Spear’s Review
The private markets have changed, Christian Wicklein tells Spear’s. ‘It’s not Barbarians at the Gate anymore,’ he says, referring to the famously dramatic 1989 book that charted KKR’s leveraged buyout of RJR Nabisco. ‘It’s become all about value creation.’
Public markets have also changed for that matter, adds Wicklein, who is managing director and co-head of the private wealth division at Switzerland-based private markets firm Partners Group.
‘Public and private markets are swapping roles in financing the economy – and the investable universe of listed companies is shrinking,’ he explains. Fewer companies float their shares on publicly traded stock markets, and that means more and better opportunities for private investors, which Partners Group serves through a broad range of solutions at its private wealth division, which has more than $40 billion in AuM.
