Spear’s Review
Tristan Dollie is a partner within the London arm of international law firm Brown Rudnick, operating within the special situations, credit and trading practice. He is experienced in real estate finance, art finance and structured finance, and advises borrowers and lenders including investment companies, family offices, funds, direct lenders and banks. His practice also covers a wide array of transactions, from acquisitions to cross-border loan arrangements.
‘I’m in the special situations team, which is effectively a collection of oddballs; people that don’t fit anywhere else,’ he says. ‘But, overall, we are a team that deal with finance transactions or financings.’
Dollie and his team operate as ‘external in-house counsel’, especially for high-net-worth individuals who do not have a family office of their own. ‘We are an extension of what that family office would be,’ he explains. ‘We’re not necessarily just working with family offices. Equally, we’re not just debt advisory. We’re in between the two.’
Adviser Profile
Tristan Dollie is a partner at Brown Rudnick and specialises in real estate finance, special situations, distressed debt, art finance, and structured finance.
With a diverse clientele ranging from ultra-high-net-worth individuals and family offices to investment companies and financial institutions, Tristan’s practice encompasses a broad spectrum of traditional and non-traditional finance transactions. His experience extends across acquisition and development finance, refinancing, and loan/portfolio acquisitions, usually with cross-border elements. Notably, Tristan focuses on transactions with elements of distress requiring innovative structuring and financing techniques (both contentious and non-contentious).
Beyond managing transactions, Tristan leverages his industry contacts to identify off-market investment opportunities and assists with sourcing and structuring various financing solutions tailored to meet each client’s needs.
Tristan was part of the Brown Rudnick deal team advising London-based private equity firm Queensgate Investments on a nearly $800 million global refinancing of Generator Hostels, one of the largest real estate financings in 2023. The deal was reported in multiple media outlets, and the team nominated for several awards including ‘Finance Team of the Year’ at The Lawyer Awards and ‘Law Firm of the Year: Europe’ at the Real Estate Capital Europe Awards.
In addition, Tristan has worked on multiple deals involving European sovereign counterparties. Tristan advised an ultra-high-net-worth individual and their corporate vehicles in relation to a structured real estate finance dispute and settlement with a European sovereign counterparty. He also advised two family trusts in relation to a circa £130 million income strip transaction with a European sovereign counterparty relating to a health care asset.
