Spear’s Review
Lord Paul Deighton’s influence is felt far and wide, not least through his directorial role at strategic advisory firm Hakluyt and his chairmanships of Heathrow Airport and the Economist Group.
Deighton pursued a successful career in investment banking, first at the Bank of America and later Goldman Sachs, where he rose to become the banking giant’s chief operating officer for Europe. He was then headhunted to become the chief executive of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), and oversaw the day-to-day preparations for the 2012 Games, working in close collaboration with chairman Lord Coe.
Following the Olympics, he received a knighthood and became a life peer. He supported David Cameron’s coalition government as Commercial Secretary to the Treasury until 2015.
As non-executive chairman of Heathrow, Lord Deighton is a key figure in guiding the growth and development of the airport.
