Spear’s Review

Lambrook is a co-educational prep school situated on a beautiful 52-acre campus in the Berkshire countryside. It was founded on Christian principles, and compassion and family values are at the very core of life at the school.

Lambrook has an excellent reputation for academics, success in placing students into excellent senior schools and in looking after and nurturing their pupils. Lambrook is also the preparatory school of HRH Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The school has excellent facilities, including its own farm, a mini-golf course, a cricket pitch, a performing arts centre and a chapel. Outside of the classroom, pupils enjoy partaking in a range of sports and activities including cricket, football, hockey, squash and tennis. If this isn't enough to entertain, Lambrook also offers many clubs and co-curricular activities open to any student, such as sewing, debating, songwriting, golf, farming and bee-keeping.

Boarding remains a large part of life at the school, which offers weekly, daily and one-off boarding; many pupils engage with boarding at all points in their school careers.

Academics

Students taking the Common Entrance exam at Lambrook achieve a 100 per cent pass rate.

Senior school destinations

Pupils go on to some of the top senior schools in the country, including CharterhouseEtonHarrowMarlborough College and Wycombe Abbey.

Head teacher

Jonathan Perry has been headmaster at Lambrook since 2010, having previously headed up Kingsmead School in Cheshire. He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, where he gained a postgraduate certificate in education, and the University of Gloucestershire, where he achieved a BA in theology and history.

Admissions

According to the school, pupils can start at Lambrook at any stage, depending on availability of places. Usual points of entry are at nursery, reception, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 7; however, places are offered as available following an assessment. Parents and children are more than welcome to visit the school during the application process and are able to have a tour with the school registrar and attend an appointment with the headmaster. The application process includes submitting an application form and undertaking an assessment which differs depending on the year of entry: those children entering at pre-prep level into Year 2 attend either an assessment morning or an observational group setting; from Year 3 upwards, children are invited to a formal assessment day.
