Pelorus Travel is a company that aims for adventure, rather than simply travel, and co-founders Jimmy Carroll and Geordie Mackay-Lewis are nothing if not adventurers.

Carroll spent eight years as a captain in the British Army reconnaissance division and later led an expedition to climb Everest. More recently, he rowed across the Atlantic as part of a four-man crew. He is a member of the Royal Geographical Society and a qualified yacht skipper. Fittingly, Pelorus offers all the yachting possibilities even the most seasoned sailor could want.

Mackay-Lewis was also a British Army captain and spends his free time paragliding and diving. He balances oversight of the firm with managing the Pelorus Foundation, which seeks to ‘protect, preserve and promote at-risk wildlife and environments by identifying and supporting high impact operators across the planet’.

Part of Pelorus’s success comes from ‘going against the industry grain’, Mackay-Lewis says, organising bespoke experiences that match the desires and tastes of individual travellers.
