Gates has been practising as a barrister at 4 Paper Buildings since 2001. Specialising in the financial consequences of relationship breakdown and children law disputes, Gates co-founded The Divorce Surgery with Samantha Woodham in 2018, pioneering the model that is now seeing broader take-up in family law circles. One benefit of this model, he says, is that couples are encouraged to focus on realistic outcomes at a much earlier stage in the process than they otherwise would.
