Description

HUNTERS HASprovided a wide range of services to meet the needs of clients since 1715. They understand their clients’ needs and tailor their work to each set of circumstances, providing high quality, effective advice. A multidisciplinary practice, they work collaboratively to provide a comprehensive service.

Hunters is an integrated mediumsized all service partnership providing expert legal advice for private individuals, businesses and charities. The partners are known for their approachability and work together to give an efficient and comprehensive service.

The firm has practised from its premises in Lincoln’s Inn for over 300 years, a mark of the firm’s stability and permanence. This continuity is reflected in the lasting service given to clients.

Hunters concentrates on its clients’ individual needs. A partner is personally responsible for every client and this special relationship, often built up over many years, is the bedrock of the practice.

Since 2011 the firm has expanded significantly. In April 2011 it merged with the private client firm VernorMiles and Noble, which enhanced its private client, property and charity client base. Over the following 18 months five new partners joined Hunters. Further, in February 2014 the firm merged with Klein Solicitors, which specialised in international dispute resolution, business transactions and contentious and non-contentious property and art law.

On 1st April 2015 Hunters merged with the private client firm May, May & Merrimans. By joining forces the firm has created one of the largest private client departments in the country, with the expertise and resources required to maintain the high standards in what has become a very specialist area.

PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK:

Private Client

The firm is best known for its long-standing expertise in acting for private individuals and trustees. The private client services include all aspects of tax planning, trusts and settlements, wills and probate and income tax, as well as offshore advice. Heritage property is an area of special expertise, including exemption from inheritance tax and the establishment of maintenance funds. The firm has expanded its international work advising both UK domiciled and non-UK domiciled clients on all aspects of their affairs. The firm’s landed estates expertise is an important practice area with the firm acting for over 65 estates.

Property

Hunters’ property partners handle all aspects of conveyancing and landlord and tenant matters relating to domestic property and agricultural and landed estates. The firm also handles a wide range of commercial property work, including development, construction and all aspects of secured lending, as well as undertaking a significant amount of banking security work.

Family

The family department offers expertise in all areas of family law, particularly in relation to high value ancillary relief and complex pre- and post-nuptial agreements, as well as child law issues, both public and private, domestic and international. The department has an established ADR capability, with many of the team being qualified and experienced mediators and collaborative lawyers.

Charity

The firm has a well-established background in charity law work, delivering pragmatic and practical advice to a broad range of national and private not-for-profit organisations. The work includes the formation and administration of charities, charity schemes, Housing Association work and all legal matters with which the firm’s charity clients become involved.

Dispute Resolution

Hunters has developed a significant dispute resolution department which deals with all civil matters ranging from personal injury to contract disputes, property issues and disputes as to title, and contentious trust and probate matters. It also has expertise in the law of art and cultural property, both contentious and non-contentious.

Business

The firm provides businesses with advice upon merger and acquisitions, finance and security, company formation and structure, partnerships and investment. As with our private client work, the firm’s practice has an increasing international focus, with growing work involving cross-border transactions, often between organisations which are not directly connected with the UK, but have chosen English law as the governing law of their contracts.

Employment

Hunters act for employers and employees, workers and self-employed contractors on all aspects of employment law, including representation in contentious matters such as employment tribunals, as well as advising on and drafting employment contracts, workplace policies and procedures and all other related matters.

Art & Cultural Property

Hunters shares its clients’ passion for art and is recognised as a leader in the field, bringing its lawyers’ experience and expertise to bear when clients want to transition art to the next generation, buy or sell artworks, or are involved in disputes in both the UK and international art markets. The team provides effective, discreet advice to individuals, businesses, trusts, landed estates and charities, preserving and protecting its clients’ interests and artworks.
