Spear’s Review
Sophie Stevens works as Sotheby’s jewellery savant for the Middle East and North Africa region, a broad role which sees her support private clients looking to buy jewels in international auctions, as well as helping to put together ‘regional exhibitions and educational events’, according to the firm.
She joined the auctioneer in 2019 after consulting for the business in Dubai since 2016. Before that, Stevens worked in fine jewellery auctions and valuations at Bonhams in London.
A seasoned purveyor of and specialist in antique gemstones, Stevens is a member of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and is adept at grading diamonds and evaluating precious stones. She gained her stripes working as a gemmologist and diamond grader at Lucas Rarities in London, after graduating with a theology degree from the University of Bristol.
An avid watcher of jewellery tastes in the Middle East, Stevens frequently provides media commentary on timepieces and fine jewels, including as a contributor at Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
