Spear’s Review
City Minister and Economic Secretary to the Treasury Tulip Siddiq has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring the good health of the UK’s vibrant financial services sector, including maintaining the City of London’s status as a world-beating centre for business services.
She also manages Treasury relationships with the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority at a time when the latter is changing the way it regulates financial services across the UK.
The MP for Hampstead and Highgate, Siddiq was first elected to parliament in 2015. Before entering politics, she worked for PR outfit Brunswick and at Save the Children, later becoming an adviser to the now-Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
The beginning of her latest term as an MP, following the July 2024 election, was marked by tumult: Siddiq was investigated (and later cleared) by the parliamentary standards watchdog over rental income generated from a property in London, while her aunt, Bangladesh’s prime minister Sheikh Hasina, was ousted from office.
