Spear’s Review
Andrew Griffith had a seasoned career in business before he was appointed economic secretary to the Treasury in 2022. A chartered accountant, Griffith’s early career saw him work for PwC and Rothschild & Co, where he supported organisations in the telecommunications sector with strategic advice.
Fittingly, he joined Sky in 1999, becoming the media giant’s chief financial officer nearly a decade later, at the time making him the youngest ever person to enter a CFO role for a FTSE 100 organisation. During his tenure as an executive, revenues at the media company nearly tripled, a success topped off by the 2018 acquisition of the firm by Comcast, two years after Griffith had become the firm’s COO.
From 2014, he also served on the board of Just Eat, although he stepped down from both of his board roles to become economic adviser to Boris Johnson in 2019. He entered parliament for the first time as MP for Arundel and South Downs earlier that year.
As part of a 2023 government reshuffle under then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Griffith became minister of state for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, a role he held until the July 2024 general election, whereby he was appointed shadow secretary within the department.
