After more than two decades of success holding senior roles at Christie’s and Sotheby’s, Patrick Masson, the personable Brittany-born managing director was hired to develop Bonhams’ European art and collectibles business from scratch in 2020. Since his appointment, Masson has been busy overseeing the acquisition of Bukowskis, a Swedish auction house well-respected in the Nordic region, to expand its network.

One of Bonhams’ most lucrative acquisition was of Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen in March 2022, which achieved €5 million in sales. ‘This was a one team approach – it was a collective success!’ Masson enthuses.

Masson’s secret to commercial success is his passion for ‘storytelling and putting things into context, whatever the subject’. In his career he’s organised successful sales, from creating an erotica theme around burlesque artist Dita Von Teese at Sotheby’s to experimenting with themes such as pop culture and the best of British icons at Bonhams.
