After more than two decades of success in senior roles at Christie’s and Sotheby’s, the personable, Brittany-born Patrick Masson joined Bonhams in 2020 as managing director of Bonhams UK. Now based in Paris and heading up the international auction house’s European operations, Masson has been central to the transformation of Bonhams in the UK and beyond.

In 2022 Masson oversaw the acquisition of Bukowskis, a Swedish auction house well respected in the Nordic region as well as that of Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen. ‘This was a team approach – it was a collective success!’ Masson enthused at the time.

Masson’s secret to commercial success is his passion for ‘storytelling and putting things into context, whatever the subject’. In his career he has organised a range of successful sales, from creating an erotica theme around burlesque artist Dita Von Teese at Sotheby’s to experimenting with themes such as pop culture and the best of British icons at Bonhams.
