Professor John Deanfield is a consultant cardiologist at HCA Healthcare and a professor of cardiology at UCL, with a global reputation as a researcher, clinician and contributor to national health policy. He has championed lifetime management of cardiovascular risk, introducing the concept of ‘investing in your arteries’ from an early age to reduce future heart attacks.

With over 40 years’ experience in clinical practice, he provides a range of personalised, specialist cardiac services to his patients, including a dedicated prevention programme. ‘Doctors traditionally wait for people to get sick and treat them late in the disease,’ he says. ‘But it’s like financial planning – you don’t start saving for retirement at 64. It’s about convincing people that their heart really matters.’
