Spear’s Review

Bimpe Nkontchou is the founder and managing principal of the London-based wealth management firm W8 Advisory. She specialises in advising entrepreneurs and family businesses on corporate law, cross-border issues, philanthropy and family foundations.

The firm provides services to African high-net-worth individuals who are either based in or have connections to the UK, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa.

Nkontchou is qualified to practise law in both the UK and Nigeria, and she recently told Spear’s how much she enjoys helping her clients. ‘I enjoy problem solving, and the work I do is all about finding global solutions. This could be anything from ensuring my clients’ business interests are legally compliant to finding the best education for their children.’

Adviser Profile

Bimpe Nkontchou is Founder and Managing Principal of W8 Advisory, a wealth management boutique firm based in Central London which provides family office and asset management services to African HNWs with a strong presence in the UK.

Bimpe is a dually qualified lawyer, with over 30 years’ collective experience in England and Wales and in Nigeria. As ‘Trusted Advisor’ to HNW clients, affluent entrepreneurs, significant family businesses and NextGens, she provides advice for wealth structuring, tax and estate planning, family governance and family business succession planning; as well as accessing solutions for financial planning, asset management, business consultancy, corporate finance and philanthropy. Bimpe offers essential advice and stewardship to support the growth and continuity of the founding owner’s vision and legacy.

‘I intimately understand the cultural nuances that motivate African HNW families in managing, preserving and structuring their wealth, for today and for their next generation,’ Bimpe explains.

In 2021, Bimpe launched a fintech platform Wealth8, with the objective of democratising access to wealth management, saving and investing and financial education for the underserved audience of mass affluent black and minority communities in the UK and African diaspora, with a focus on the next generation of entrepreneurs and inheritors of wealth.

Bimpe successfully hosted the first Lagos Private Wealth Conference (held in Lagos, Nigeria) in June 2024, as a platform designed to connect clients with professional firms and advisers focused on enhancing wealth management services on the African continent.

Bimpe is a keen enthusiast and collector of modern and contemporary African art, which is rapidly becoming an important asset class. She advises families and established artists on different models of philanthropy and methods of preserving the legacy of important artwork.
