EY partner Adrian Smale leads the firm’s private client service team and advises owner-managed businesses and tech entrepreneurs on their tax planning and structuring. 

Having worked at a number of firms across his career, including PwC and Grant Thornton, he has honed his expertise over two decades to provide solid solutions to a diverse and evolving network – one he encounters daily in his current role. He tells Spear’s that he recently worked on a 10-figure transaction in the music/entertainment space. 

The Cambridge graduate says that HNWs are increasingly finding themselves concerned about rising inheritance tax and capital gains tax rates, and are consequently beginning internal conversations over whether now is the time to sell one’s business. ‘That conversation will look different for everybody,’ he clarifies.
