Patrik Schumacher joined Zaha Hadid Architects in 1988 after graduating with a degree in architecture, and took over as principal following the death of Hadid in 2016. Described by the company as ‘one of the most prominent thought leaders within the field of architecture, urbanism and design’, he has led projects in China, London, Germany and Spain.

Schumacher has previously told CLADmag that Zaha Hadid Architects differentiates itself by creating versatile and unique buildings. ‘There’s a strong DNA in this company,’ he said. ‘A strong set of overall principles, but there’s also a process of maturation and continuous innovation, and that’s something I’m focusing on.’
